Janne won four Finnish championships in 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2008. In 2008 he also scored the most points in the SM-Liiga with 34 goals and 44 assists for 78 points in only 56 games. In addition to being the league's current scoring champion, Pesonen was the SM-Liiga Rookie of the Year in 2003-04, and was the playoff most valuable player (MVP) in 2007.
Originally drafted in 2004 in the NHL Entry draft by the Anaheim Ducks in the 9th round. In 2008 Janne was signed to a 1 year contract by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
