Devils come a limping...

Tomorrow night the once feared team in the East will be at the Igloo. Rumor has it there were team meetings behind closed door with coach Sutter doing all the talking. Has Marty won a game since he record 552. Watching the game vs the Rangers last night the Devils attack looked weak and feeble. Brodeur keep it a 3-0 loss with very little help from his defensemen.

Maybe tomorrow night Cookie Monster can do his best Avery imo. Avery was a thorn against them Monday.

Looks like the Devils will come to the Igloo on our terms, should be interesting.

I'm saying now the title to East through the 'Burgh

Interesting stat...

This year Pesonen is 7 for 9 in shootouts...

The best Penguin, Petr Sykora is 3 for 8...

Sidney Crosby is 3 for 10

Malkin is 2 for 7...

and Letang is 2 for 8...

Kevin's take:

also 3 of those 7 have been game winners, in which Janne was tie for the league in(SO)

Pens are in...

I wish I could have watched this one. The Baby Pens taking on the first place Hershey Bears.

This sounded like a war being describe by Pens announcer Scott Stuccio. Pens got a late 1st period goal on the PP by Dustin Jeffery(11).  the Pens win 1-0...

some great PK(0/6) by the Pens kept the Bears off the scoreboard, including a late 3rd period 2 man advantage for Hershey.

John Curry set a new record for wins(31) by a WBS goalie. It was also his 4th SO.

Curry was also the games #1 star.

Janne was held pointless.

Pens move into second place and play Hershey 2 more times

Like a rented mule...

Found this video of janne burying a shootout goal in WBS...

Playoff scenario for WBS

Its just a matter of time before it happens, tho it could happen as soon as tonight.

W-B/Scranton clinches a playoff berth on Sunday with:
(a) a win at Hershey, OR
(b) a Philadelphia regulation loss vs. Grand Rapids, OR
(c) an OTL/SOL at Hershey
AND a Philadelphia OTL/SOL vs. Grand Rapids

Some big ups to janne...

Thanks to fellow Janniac for the heads up on this article from the post gazette... Dave Molonari talks about the Blue Jerseys and Janne

I honestly would not be surprised if Janne becomes one of the top priorities for the pens to try and sign before Free Agency starts... Whether he wants to come back is another issue...

From nhlnumbers the other FA coming up this season:

Shitan
Sykora
ShitTank
Guerin
Bill Thomas
Chris Minard
Craig Adams
Tim Wallace (RFA)
BizShitty (RFA)
Jeff Taffe
Connor James (RFA)
Hal Gill
Philippe Boucher
Rod Scuderi
Golgo (RFA)
Ben Lovejoy (RFA)
Garon
John Curry (RFA)

I'm sure a whole bunch of those guys will get resigned, but as for top priorities I would have to think that the main people they will make attempts at out of here...

Golgo, they will probably make an attempt at Sykora and Guerin, John Curry.... After that, it's pretty much a toss up, but Janne could be up there...

Who knows this?

there is an outside chance in the West that the whole Central Division could make the post season playoffs.

Wings...2nd
BlackHawks...4th
BlueJackets...6th
Preditors...7th
Blues are 10th at this posting, they are winning tonight and would put them in a tie for 8th with Edmonton...

Now I'm not looking for any bashings of the division here. I'm asking if any entire division has ever made the playoffs.

Tin Puck has informed us that the entire Adams Division(only 5 team division to do it) made the playoffs in 1980/81 season.

The teams were:
Buffalo
Boston
Minnesota
Quebec
Toronto

in 77/78 and 78/79 the Division "NHLP", a 4 team division did it.

The teams were:
Islanders
Flyers
Flames
Rangers

Baby Pens can clinch playoffs tonight..

With a win tonight the Baby Penguins will secure their place in the Calder Cup Playoffs... Janne has been on a tear lately, so hopefully he keeps it up and leads them to the promised land...

Waita go Pigman...

For as much as we pick on Pigman, that was pretty sweet how he just went up to avery and fought him... Pens are looking solid so far, nice and physical, if they keep this up nobody in the east is gonna be able to last a 7 game series against them...

Pesonen Arena...

Wachovia Bank will be ending it's sponsorship of the home of the WBS Penguins... No new name has been anounced that I am aware of, although I think they should give credit where credit is due... The Pesonen Arena...

Scratch ShitTank bring up Janne...

ShitTank is useless right now.... He is putting up shit numbers, and isn't making anything happen on the ice... The Pens should really consider scratching him and bringing Janne up for the Playoffs... Right now the J man is on a tear, if we can get half of his productivity in the playoffs it'd be a huge boost...

Also there will be an outage around 7PM EST for about 10 min on blogger...

Grand Rapid at WBS Pens

Janne does major damage!!!

Janne(28,29) has stolen the show in the 3rd period with two goals after the Griffens scored 3 straight goals to tie the Pens 3-3.

Pessi's scored 2 in less than 3 mins.

Chris Minard(32) has scored in the second to set a team record for most goals in a season.

Taffe(23) and Caputi(17) scored for the Pens..

Janne's 21st muiltiple game this season..

Curry was in net for the win..

I'm speechless...

It's no mystery why Pens TV is online and not on real TV...

Another Record in Sight...

Janne is 6 points away from breaking the record for most points by a Finnish born player in the AHL...

Currently the record holder, Kai Suikkanen who played with the Rochester Americans in the 82-83 season holds the record with 77 points. Trailing behind Janne, is Valtteri Filppula (currently with detroit) with 71 points (only 20 goals) in 05-06 for the Grand Rapid Griffins in 3rd and with 70 points in 05-06 with the Hartford Wolfpack...

Of those three names the only one with any success in the NHL was Valtteri Filppula... Hopefully janne will follow his path...

13 in 21

When Ugly wins the scoring race this year it will mark the 13th pens scoring title in the past 21 seasons.

66(6)
68(5)
87(1)
71(1)

Bunch of pansies....

Kevin and I talked about this after the game, but just wanted to see what everybody else thought. During the Penguins power plays, the NBC announcers kept going on and on about how amazing it was that the penguins top PP line played the entire PP....

There is nothing wrong with that, in fact, i'd like to see more of it, but the thing is, I don't understand why they were making such a big deal of it. Hockey stars of the 80s and 90s did this game in and game out. When Mario and The Great One were in their prime, they would never think about missing a second of a power play, let alone having a whole separate unit share time with them...

Anyways just some food for thought the morning after a loss...

Sunday, March 22, 2009

Blah...

I was trying to find an image for the heading, but that game sucked so much it wasn't worth my time... Malkin and Crosby had 0 shots on net... Burn the Blues

Noooooooo

The penguins are 2-5-2 in the blue jerseys and have been outscored, 27-19...

Malkin Fined not Suspended

As per HNIC Malkin was fined and given a stern talking to... When I think of it, he probably didn't know what the people were saying, so he probably didn't learn his lesson... Anyways, woo

The Don attacked Geno, but not Lady Alex for his celebration, that's suprising, you'd think he'd be foaming at the mouth with the opportunity to attack two Russians on one show...

Also apparantly Brind'Amour lit up Lady Alex and he threw a hissy fit... Anybody with the youtube will get huge props... The capitals are a mess, they have no heart, i'd be suprised if they win one series...

Tough Weekend for WBS

Baby Pens had an opportunity this weekend to make a major move in the East. Playing the 5th and 7th teams in their division I think they felt good about both games.

Well scoring just 2 goals in 2 games isn't going to cut it and lost both games 2-1.....Even as hot as Janne has been lately there wasn't a star from WBS in the two games.

You would think 70 total shots on goal would produce a few more goals than the 2 they scored this weekend.

Pens were always pretty potent on the PP, this weekend they were 1/11..that hurts...to go along with that they gave the opposition 14 chances of their own resulting in only 2 goals.

The D has played well...the goaltending has also been strong...the scorers have seemed to have gone south. In the last 3 games Janne has 4 goals + a shootout goal, the rest of the team 1 goal +1 shootout goal.

Hopefully the couple of home games they have this week will be what the doctor ordered..

BTW....Janne is tied for 5th in the AHL scoring race.

Malkin May get Suspended...

Malkin had a disciplinary hearing over the phone today with the NHL due to the hit depicted in the youtube above... There is a possibility that Malkin may get a 2 game suspension because of this... Who knows what is going to happen here, but 2 games shouldn't really affect malkin in the points race since he is so far ahead and not slowing down... I know Lady Alex had some questionable hits earlier in the year but nothing happened... Who knows, ruling will come down before tomorrow...

Update: As per ESPN, Chicago Blackhawks' Ben Eager was suspended 3 games for a head shot on saturday night to Oiler's winger, Liam Reddux... Eager was considered a repeat offender, so at least we know malkin won't be gone for more than 2 games...

Friday, March 20, 2009

Let the Good Times Roll...

The Pens kicked ass again... Fleury wasn't tested, but it didn't matter, our D was lights out tonight... I never thought i'd be impressed by Hal Gill again, but he's back in form... Sunday is huge, we gotta keep rollin here, right now we are the most dangerous team in the east... More tomorrow...

FREE JANNE

WBS vs Phantoms

Janne(27) continues his torrid scoring streak with a PP goal, Dustin Jefferys and John D'versa with the assists.

in last 2 games Janne is the only WBS player to put the puck in the net during regulation...

The newest controversy...

I can't wait to hear the Don's response to this...

I personally don't really care that much about this kind of shit. Some people think this is horrific some people think it's great, I don't think much about it at all... The fact that it was obviously pre-planned (and shitty at that) made it alittle hokey but whatev... Personally I like Teemu Selane's celebration better

If ovechkin spent his time learning to backcheck and not turn the puck over rather than thinking up celebrations he might actually be the best player in the league... Until that day comes... Long live malkin...

Show your support...

Malkin deserves to be the MVP... Anybody else getting it would be highway robbery... Not sure how many bloggers come here, but pass this around so we can show our support...

The Irish Fin...

Janne Rockin his Irish Jersey

2nd half of the Season Records

On ESPN.com Pierre LeBrun posted how teams have played the second half of the season.... The top four teams in order are

1. NJ Devils
2. Detroit Red Wings
3. St. Louis Blues
4. Pittsburgh Penguins

Some other teams of interest...

8. Washington Capitals
9. San Jose Sharks
10. Calgary Flames
11. Florida Panthers
13. Boston Bruins
15. Philly Cryers
22. New York Rangers

To see the full table with all the stats and other teams go here

Interesting Article...

Not sure if you guys are regular readers but Seth over at Empty Netters (you should really read this blog) posted an interesting article about the Pittsburgh Penguins having the Most 100 point seasons from players...

With Malkin going over the 100 point number the penguins have a total of 29 Individual
100-Point Seasons, edging out the Oilers...

The Penguins who have eclipsed the 100 point marker are...

Mario Lemieux (10)
Jaromir Jagr (4)
Paul Coffey (2)
Sidney Crosby (2)
Ron Francis (2)
Evgeni Malkin (2)
Rob Brown (1)
Pierre Larouche (1)
Jean Pronovost (1)
Mark Recchi (1)
Kevin Stevens (1)
Rick Tocchet (1)

Kevin's Edit:

To correct my partner in crime Wayne had 14/100 + point seasons...

Some other interesting things, Lemieux has the most 100 point seasons with 10... Another thing that I thought was interesting was that the Devils have never had a 100 point scorer in their history... Parise is at 85 right now so that might end up being a close one...

This just shows how lucky we are as hockey fans that we have had that many players put up massive points in our relatively short history...

WBS 3 Philly Phantoms 2

Janne continues to rack up points scoring two goals in regulation tonight for the Wilkes Barre Baby Penguins... The game also went to a shoot out where both Miro and Janne buried it...

As usual Janne was the 1st star...

Seriously, if they don't make an attempt to resign Janne at this point they'd be kwazy...

Head over to This is Getting Old for some exclusive pics of Janne sportin the Irish Uniforms and burying the game winning goal... Thanks to brad for the heads up...

Wooo Pens Dominate

1st Minute of the Game..."God damnit we better not choke against this scrub team, I can't f'in believe they are up 1-0"

Rest of the Game..."Wooooooooo"

While Kevin was spending his time drooling over his man-crush (in a very sexual way) Marty B on the NHL network the Penguins were tearing up the Mellon Arena... Malkin was a machine... Staal looked great... Kunitz is a god send... Hell even the Lip made me proud...

I know that we were playing a scrub team with their backup goalie in net (Mooooooooooose), but in order to be a great team you ahve to beat the teams you are supposed to beat... Right now it is looking like a possibility that we could play the Cryers in the first round... I like that match-up... Fleury is getting hot, and well the flyers goaltending leaves much to be desired...

Last night, the Rangers won, doesn't matter, they were playing the Habs so that game was a push... The flyers choked woo woo, and the suddnely not so hot panthers lost again...

Though things are seemingly going our way, we are still masters of our own destinys so we need to keep up the intensity... On friday the LA Kings come to town for their second game in 2 days, we should handle them fairly easy... Then on Sunday game of the week we got the Cryers... It's a Great week for hockey...

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Congrats to Marty from Pesonen and the Pens on breaking the most wins by a goalie record.

Devils defeated Chicago 3-2

I just got some new respect for Sid...

Image of Sid Sans Visor from Sidney Crosby Show

According to the Great Mark Madden...

Early in the game against the Bruins, Crosby and Sid got into a little scuffle... According to Chris Kunitz (Nickname Pending) during said scuffle Savard said something along the lines "If you didn't wear that visor like a sissy I would fight you" to which Crosby responded "fine...wait for it..." Following this Sid had the equipment staff remove his visor and played the rest of the game without it... None of the bruins backed their shit up and sid ended the game with 3 points... Sucka

Wbs vs Albany A RECORD SETTING NIGHT

All Hail Janne!!!!!

In Jannes inaugural season in North America Hockey(AHL)a record setting night was had.

No other player in Wilkes-Barre Penguins history has scored more than 67(Toby Peterson) points in a season. Janne collected his second assist and 68th point this season to set a new team record. Every memeber of Pessination wants to help us congratulate Janne on his effort.

I hope the big club is taking notice.

Goals by Caputi(16), Wozniewski(2,3), Taffe(22), Satan(1), James(17) and Johnson(12)

Janne has just tied the record assisting on Satan(1) goal

Janne has just assisted on a PP goal by Nick Johnson(12) to set a new team record for 68 points.

The record setting point was at 10:06 of the 3rd

6 players had multiple points with satan leading with 1g/3a

John Curry was in the nets for the Pens..

Two big days...

Pens play Atlanta on Tuesday, there are also some other interesting games that fans should pay attention to...

Rangers vs. Canadians (Tue)
This game is pretty much a push, both teams are at 80 points, pick somebody and cheer for them, it might be better if the Rangers win cause the Canadians have 2 games in hand rather than 1 game in hand for the Rangers

Red Wings vs Flyers (Tue)
Get you Marian Hossa shirts ready Penguins fans, cause we can use a win from them here... We are slowly gaining on the Cryers and with the big Sunday matchup next week we could easily start next week in 4th place...

Crapitals vs Panthers (Tue)
Hopefully Ovechkin doesn't choke here, even though the panthers are 4 points behind us, we have played 2 more games than them so we need them to lose...

Devils vs. Hurricanes (Wed)
This game could be history in the making, as Marty B will be going for the All-Time Career wins for a goaltender over St. Patrick Roy... Luckily for Marty he will have the Penguin nation on his side, Carolina is 3 points behind us and has played the same number of games...

In addition Janne's next 3 games are at home so most likely he will be able to set the WBS Points in a season at home... Hopefully the Finish flags will be out and waiving...

Let's Go Pens...Free Janne

What a game!!!

Couldn't wait for the buzzer to sound on this game. back n forth. the goaltending wasn't the greatest, but we got our money worth thanks to Chris Kunitz's hat trick. What a move on the breakaway!!!

The Lip,Big Goof and CK had a huge game.

Powerplay was ok even though we scored 2, the refs gave us plenty of chances. I'm sure the bruins blogs will be whining.

I'm alittle concerned about this Garon guy, he scares me in the net. Hope MAF stays healthy or we will be in deep shit.

PK is looking pretty good of late 1/5 today.

Much better effort today than yesterday..very big 2 points, how many times have we said this already?

Tough Day

Not much to report following the St. Pat day celebration. Vince's and my family starting with keg's and eggs around 8am, I petered out around 11pm. In the middle of that time we watched the Pens blow a grand opportunity when they blew a 3-1 3rd period lead then lost in a shoot out.

Cuttos to the Sens, they came in an out worked us for most of the game. The rest of the playoff hopefuls lost in shootouts too. Ranger/Cnadians just flat out lost.

The baby Pens lost 3-2 with Janne held scoreless. so he remains 1 point away from tieing the team record for points.

Bostons comes to town today at 3pm

Janne and the pens play Albany tomorrow night in a make-up game. Stay tune to see if janne ties the record.

Note: Congrats to Marty Brodeur, who tied Patrick Roy in career wins by a goaltender with 551 wins.  Marty goes for the record Tuesday vs Chicago.

Janne works hard....

Damian sent us this article in the Times...

Pens vs. Sens

Blogging from my iphone right now so pardon my typos... Today at 3 the pens begin a 8 game home stretch starting against Ottawa... This game should be a slam dunk... This team is in shambles and has absolutly no goaltending... Dont take this game too lightly though we need these points and cant afford to drop them to a scrub team... Lets get some confidence back on our pp tonight... Else FUMY

Janne Pesonen Picture of the week...

Not often anymore a picture of Janne that just blows us away comes around, but here he is celebrating a goal during his record tying night... Anyways, hopefully his presumably record setting season will help him once contract time rolls around...

Thanks to Obelix for the heads up on the picture...

Kevin's add:

for the second game in a row Janne was #1 star of the game.

Pens vs Riverrats

Midway through the 2nd period Pens lead 3-0 over the Riverrats.

Dustin Jeffery has 2 goal(9,10)
J-M Daoust(10)
Janne Goal (24)

Netminder John Curry team record 50th win

-Janne 8 points in 2 games

-Janne has 1 goal/2 assists given him 66, 1 short of the team record 67...

-Janne has 16 pts in his last 9 games and 18 multiple point games...

Janne/Minard tie team marks..

Minard tied the team records for goals in a season (31) and career power play goals (31) with two goal, while Janne picked up five points (1g/4a), tieing the  team mark for points in a game.  He also over took Jeff Taffe in the team scoring lead with 63 points (23g/40a), Janne also need 4 more points to tie and 5 pts to set a new team points record.

another game note: didn't want to forget to mention the night was also big  for Mark Letestu w/ 1g 3a..

Tonight vs. Columbus

Tonight the Penguins are playing the Columbus Blue Jackets...

The two biggest pieces of news are that Sykora is still out so Malkin will continue to play on Joke Line... But what might be even bigger is that Steve Mason, the CBJ goaltender, who leads the league in shutouts is Questionable...

If he ends up sitting out there is a huge drop off between him and their second goaltender... Even though this technically isn't a huge game like that against other Eastern playoff teams this is not a game that we want to drop... With the way that we are playing right now we should crush this team, esp if they have their backup goalie in... Win a game you should win in case we lose a game in the future...

Satan will report to WBS

This should be interesting, Satan is going to report to the baby pens. I wonder what frame of mind the evil one will be in. I'm guessing it might take a few games maybe up to a week for Satan to get his head screwed on right. The faster the better.

Who would you put with him as linemates?

Pens(39-21-2-2) vs Phantoms(32-26-2-2)

1st period:

-JANNE set-up Letestu(19)to tie Philly 1-1 early in the first.

-goal by Biznasty(6)(Daoust-Boogaard)

-goal by Johnson(10)(JANNE-Engelland)

3 goals in 3 mins 58 secs...

-PP goal Minard(30)(Latestu-Johnson)

Pittsburgh Penguins nation received a blast from the past when Philly pulls their starting goalie, only to be replaced by Jean-Sebastien Aubin.

-Pens could have played their best first period of the season...

2nd period:

-PP Goal Minard(31)(Letestu-James)

-Minard ties club record for most goals in a season (31)

-Johnson(11)(JANNE-Goose)

-Janne is currently tied for the points lead with Jeff Taffe at 61 points

Good night all over...

I love that we got that win... In fact, I am happy we won that way more than if we went out there and beat them 10-0... Right now we are not only rebuilding in the stands but we are rebuilding our confidence... Those guys know that they can come back from down 2 in the 3rd and win the game is HUGE... We slopped up in the 3rd, but the 1st and second we were dominating the puck... If we can get our PP together by the end of this season we might be unstoppable... Also Malkin made their goalie look like a little girl...

Wow, it's so great reporting good news unlike the rest of the season where we just complained....

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Who to cheer for...

Tonight other than the Penguins game, there are some other games of interest

Sabers vs. Cryers

Unfortunately it looks like the Penguins nation will have to root for our rivals to the east...

Oilers vs. Habs
Go Oilers...this shouldn't be hard, the Habs are in disarray right now....they are following the exact path of the Senators last year...

Tomorrow

Blackhawks vs.Hurricanes
Go blackhawks

If all goes according to plan we could start off Thursday in 5th place...

Monday, March 9, 2009

Panthers come limping in....

FLA comes to the Civic Arena tomorrow with the case of the injury bug.  In what is going to be a huge game, they are all huge games Panthers will be without Nathan Horton and Bryan McCabe.

Horton had finger surgery and will miss two weeks...

McCabe is having repairs done to orbital bone and is scheduled to miss 2 games.

I'm thinking this game is ours all the way...

Marc-Andre...Nhl's #2 star of the week.

Trib reports..

Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury was named the NHL's second star of the week today. He helped the Penguins to a 3-0 record last week — with all three wins coming on the road — when he boasted a 1.63 goals-against average and 94.8 save percentage.

This season, Fleury has posted a 27-16-4 record with 2.78 goals-against average, a 91.1 save percentage and three shutouts.

The East is Up for Grabs...

Kevin touched upon this a week ago or so in the comments section, right now, the Eastern Conference is up for grabs... Boston and the Crapitals are both in a tail spin, the only teams playing consistent are us and NJ.... Anybody in the Playoffs have a shot... That being said, we need to keep this play up, we are in a poor position and missing the playoffs is still a reality we can face... I am for the first time this season excited about our top line, now we just need to get Malkins line clicking again. Tomorrows game is another huge one, we could move up to 6th place with a win...

One last thought... A playoff series against the caps would be epic...

Norfolk at Wbs

Pens use 3 first period goals to defeat Norfolk 4-1. Scoring for the pens Mark Latestu(17,18),Minard(29) and Jefferys(8).

Janne was held off the scoresheet stopping a goal(3/games) and point streak(6/games)

John Curry came within 1 second of a shutout in winning his 25th game.

-Pens scored 3 PP goals after going 0/6 the night before.
-Pens are 4-5-1 in thier last 10 despite playing some of the teams best hockey.

Next Game: Wednesday at Philly Phantoms

Tavares breaks goal scoring record

remember former Penguin Peter Lee? Well 33 years ago lee ended his OHL career with 213 goals.

London Knight's John Tavares had a hat trick  today setting a new OHL with 215 goals and counting.

Tavares is the consenses #1 pick in the 2009 NHL Draft.

-he also leads the OHL in scoring this year 15 pints ahead of his closes competitor

Could be the last chance...

Pens at Crapitals... Rumor has it the Craps are brining Pacifiers and tissues to make fun of Sid... Good thing they are getting that now because they'll prolly need those when they are eliminated in the 1st round of the SCF...

I really hope we beat their asses relentlessly tonight... I hate this team and I hate their fans... I hope Guerin puts that bitch Lady Alex on his ass...

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Championship rings...

For whatever reason, the only sport where the "championship ring" gains attention is football, even though every sport hands them out...

Anyways, I was poking around the Internet and i found this site that had a bunch of the rings on them... Anyways, they have been really sweet as of late, I personally think better than some of the football ones...

Check them out for yourself...

THE RINK RAT - Stanley Cup Rings

Janne game facts...

-Janne is in 14th place in the AHL scoring race with 57 pts while playing 8 less games than the leader.

- is 2pts behind WBS team leader Jeff Taffe(59 pts)

Alex re-assigned to WBS

The Goose is loose and on his way back to the baby Pens...

WBS vs Crunch

Its was Janne show . But the Crunch scored 3 in the 3rd for a 4-2 victory....

Pessi(20,21) has both goals for the Pens in a 2-0 first period lead.

Janne was 3rd star

Janne has a current 5 game point streak(5G/3A)

details to come about his celebrations but we hear it involved a grenade and Mikey T doll being burned in effigy...

Also i would just like to remind everybody dupuis hasn't hit the twine in over 20 games...

I Love it...

You ever play trivial pursuit with somebody and whenever you tell them the answer to a question they say something like "Oh man I knew that..."

Thats how I feel when i read supposed "Hockey Rumor Sites" (cough cough...TIOPS...Hockey Buzz) the days following the trade deadline... All they do is claim what "deals were close" and stupid shit like that... "The Penguins almost had , but it never happened and they didn't talk about it..."

I'm not gonna lie, i read both TIOPS and Hockey Buzz, mainly for novelty, but I don't buy into them at all... I remember when TIOPS said that Hossa was as good as signed last year...

Anyways, i just wanted to laugh at all of the "Deals that almost happened" posts...

Pens win...night of sick goals

Now that is the type of game you want to see in dog days of the NHL season... The Pens played great D... The Flower was playoffish in net, and when it came down to it the O put up... Not only did the O put up, but what about Sid and Silks goals... Those were some of the nicest goals i've seen out of the pens all season.. Yeah we've had some crazy goals that malkin scored, but in terms of pure skill.... you can't get much better than that... Sunday is our big test, Florida just got off a long road trip so they may have been tired, we need to keep this up... I will be damned if we let those POS Crapitals sweep us this season... I hope Lady Alex gets better by then so we can see our new tough guys show the world who the real bitch is...

Biggest game of the season...

Tonight's game is huge.... We're playing another team fighting to get into the playoffs, and there is only 8 spots... In addition we will get the first glimpse of whether or not Shero's moves have actually pointed our team in the right direction... personally i think they will... Also the lip is back in the line-up... The lines are still a question mark...

EDIT: I'm hearing that Golgo is up with the Pens right now.... Not sure if he will be a scratch or he'll get time...

UPDATE: Gonchar is back in Pittsburgh with his wife who is bringing another little Russian into the world, so Golgo will be playing, hopefully the PP doesn't suffer (or atleast any more than it is currently suffering)

Senators vs Wbs Pens

Sorry the Baby Pens got lost in the shuffle tonight with the trade deadline going on...

Janne has just assisted on the goal ahead PP goal by Nick Johnson(9) to give the Pens a 2-1 lead in the 3rd.

Jeff Taffe(20) also has a goal.

John Curry is in net tonight for the Pens..

Janne(19) goal in the M.T. net for a 3-1 win moving them back into second place.

Guerin...I dunno what is going to happen

Bill Guerin joins the Pens. How do we feel about this? One thing his stay is probably going to be short lived.

When I first heard this i was you got to be kidding me, I started to M F Shero, who same guy who brought Chris Kunitz in, so far thumbs up to Ray Ray on that move, not only has Chris been excelling but it also seems to have lit a fire under  Jordach.

After hearing what we gave up for the old kute I took the  M out of M F. Here is how our part of the trade works.

We give the Islanders:

5th round pick if we don't make the playoffs.

4th rounder if we make the playoffs and lose in the first round.

3rd rounder if we win 1 playoff series.

I can live with that.  basically we gave nothing for BG(Big GooF). I just hope Lip and and whoever is the other winger can slow their play down so BG can catch up.

I do believe this could have huge PP implications. With Kunitz and BG in front of the net there should be some pretty havoc for the other goalie contend with.

For every negative there might be a positive. So once again we wait to see is this a negative or a positive.  BG has 3 goals in his last 23 games, so we start out with the negative, Bill, now let us see the positive.

We does everyone else think?

Janne may finally get a chance to play with a player from the Pens 1st line....

Don't get too excited... Miroslav Satan got demoted to the AHL today... Honestly, I'd rather have Satan in our line up come playoff time than Tim Wallace... As crappy as Satan has been this year, I do have to feel bad for him, a guy who has proven his place in the NHL (at one time) is gonna be riding busses....

EDIT: Correction Wallace was Re-Assigned and the Penguins picked up Craig Adams off waivers from the Blackhawks

Updates as they come Trade Deadline day...

Gonna post updates as i come across them, feel more than free to give me a heads up on things, I'm trying to keep this relatively legit, so i'm trying to only post stuff from good news sources (espn, tsn.ca, the hockey news), so you won't see any bs like TIOPS/Eklund reports the penguins are closing in on...

9:30 Am - Not much going on now, from the guys on ESPN and NHL network i've heard varying reports of seeing only a few trades today to seeing over 2 dozen... In other news our thoughts and prayers go out to Hossa who was taken off the ice in a stretcher last night... Nobody ever likes to see a player of that caliber go down like that....

11:04 AM - Via ESPN, The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded goalie Pascal Leclaire to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for forward Antoine Vermette. LINK

11:23 AM - All is quiet on the NHL Front....guys on NHL network claim shit will start hitting the fan around noon...

1:37 PM - Sorry everybody wasn't at my computer for a while, nothing major happened, pens made some minor moves that don't exactly make sense, Jokinen to Flames is probably the deal of the day, Recchi to boston... Also there is a scandal down in WBS...

1:43 PM - I have this bad feeling the Pens are gonna overpay for some mediocre talent...cough cough....Guerin...cough cough

1:48 PM - Via ESPN, apparently the Pens are back in the Jarko Ruutu talks, not sure what to think of this, wouldn't mind having him around but this is not the push we need to make a cup run...LINK

2:00 PM - TSN is reporting that Guerin is coming to Pittsburgh, no other confirmation and the cost is TBA...Pierre on ESPN Confirms LINK hopefully we didn't give up much for this move...

2:07 PM - TSN claims that the deal for Guerin is a conditional pick, if the pens miss the playoffs it's a 5th round pick, if we make the playoffs it's a 4th round, and if we win a series it's a 3rd round...so not that much, which is good

Staal for Frolov not gonna happen...

Kevin texted me earlier about a rumor that would send Staal to the Kings for Frolov, i couldn't find anything, and finally something popped up...LA GM Says...

"All those rumors about him being traded are, at this stage, totally false," Lombardi said. "The last month he's picked it up and he's playing like he cares."

News as it comes... March 3rd

Considering that it is the day before the deadline and news is seemingly coming in every few min, rather than make several posts i'm gonna consolidate it all here, I'm gonna be around most of today and tomorrow so if anybody wants to get any discussion going on the comments, i'm game...

11:40 AM - Via Pierre LeBruns Blog on ESPN....Penguins did Inquire about Ruutu, but have since moved on to other targets - LINK

11:42 AM - Via TSN Canada - Crosby hopes to make his return to the lineup tonight from a groin injury but will likely be a game time decision. LINK

12:14 PM - Via ESPN, Good news for the rest of the east, the Wild have resigned goaltender Backstrom to a 4 year deal, there was a lot of speculation that Backstrom could be going to either Philly or the Caps (both have piss poor goaltending)...LINK

12:25 PM - Via TSN, the Penguins pussed out allowing the Rangers to re-acquire Sean Avery off of waivers...LINK

12:30 PM - I'm hearing that Satan was placed on waivers but I am having trouble finding it through a reputable news outlet...

1:14 PM - TSN.ca confirms, the Pens have waived Miroslav Satan today...In addition to Miro, Gerber from Ottawa and Gary Roberts have been placed on waivers...Not sure what to think of this, he sucks it down for half a season we keep him, he starts to play well we waive him...whatever, sid better be able to play else Janne might be getting a call...LINK

1:51 PM - Pittsburgh Penguins confirm that Sidney Crosby will be sitting out again with his groin injury, with him and Satan both out we are 1 forward short....LINK

2:02 PM - Empty Netters is reporting that Billy Thomas has cleared waivers and will remain with the team, idk if he's in WBS right now or still with the big boys... LINK

2:54 PM - No confirmation yet, but I am hearing that Satans waiver period does not start until tomorrow, so he may still be in the line up tonight...this happened a few years ago with Thibault if you remeber, all i know is if i just got waived i wouldn't want to go out there with that teams logo on...

4:48 PM - I'm hearing that it is going to be pretty quiet from now until after all the games tonight (say around 10 pm)...Makes sense...tomorrow could be huge...

Winger for Sid?

From hockeybuzz (take it or leave it)...

Make no mistake about it...The Penguins are stilllooking for Sid's winger right now and word is that they have had discussions with San Jose regarding Cheechoo, Minnesota regarding Gaborik and Atlanta regarding bringing back Colby Armstrong.

Armstrong's name will always be linked to Pittsburgh...I don't know why everybody thinks he is the answer to our problems, he's not even a 20 goal scorer... Cheechoo is pretty good, having a bad year, maybe he can re-energize his career in pittsburgh...Gabby...we've been over him already... I doubt the Pens will make a move today since it will leave them up shit creak in TB, so we'll most likely have to wait till tomorrow

FREE JANNE

Avery Clears waivers at noon...

Sean Avery is on Re-Entry waivers and is set to clear at Noon... Hopefully Ray Ray will complete my dream by claiming him... The Penguins need more ass holes, and if sid as a leader can't keep avery in line then he doesn't deserve to wear the C...

SIGN AVERY

FREE JANNE

I hate Rumors...

Doing a little research to see who is out there with the trade deadline roughly 1 and 1/2 days away I crossed something disturbing. Mark Recchi and Gary Roberts names being linked to the Pens. I hope this is total bullshit. In our new attack style game brought to us by Dan Bylsma why would we trade for 2 players far beyond their primes.

I know a few of you would say our 3rd and 4th lines need grit. With Roberts, who is a grizzley old vet you have to wonder if he can take a regular shift. Recchi as much as I admire his desire, I just don't see where he would fit in anywhere.

I'm just hoping these are rumors and nothing else. Please let it be so...

Speaking of rumors, Hockeybuzz is claiming Pittsburgh is in on the Gaborik Talks...Take it or leave it, I don't care, in two days we'll have actual stuff to talk about... If it's true, I like Gaborik, he's soft and quite fragile and we probably couldn't get him to resign at the end of the season... SOOOO i have a feeling shero learned his lesson with Maid Marian...

Bill Thomas on waivers...

The Hometown Kid Bill Thomas was put on waivers to go back down to WBS... Honestly I think he played much better than The Fightin Alaskin so idk how much I like this move, unless TFA gets sent down soon too... I am still hearing that Staal is still in play, and I guess I understand that, seeing that he is their biggest piece of tradebate, I just hope we don't give him up for some mediocre winger....

Trade Deadline Looms Rumors Swirl...

Ahh NHL Trade Deadline time... Tons of Rumors going around, don't know if any of them are worth a damn... On ESPN they talked about the Pens trying to Re-acquire Ruutu...wouldn't mind that, Cooke isn't stirring the pot enough... Looks like the Caps might be up shit creak with rumors of them with cap issues preventing them from making a big signing (their goalie situation is awful)... Anyways the Pens might be re-evaluating their stance with Staal tearing shit up as of late... who knows but we'll do our best to keep you in the loop

We want Lange

To this day I can't figure our why in the world Stagerwald and Errey are on the television side of Penquins Hockey while  Mike "the Legend" Lange is on the radio. If it is a money issue i can kinda except that.  I just don't get it...I guess Fox Sports are the culprits...

anyways here is Lange top 10 calls....

Bridgeport 3 Wbs 2 OT

Bridgeport in for the weekend  defeated the baby Pens 3-2 in OT.

Janne had another strong game with an assist on the tieing goal late in the 3rd.

Curry was in the nets for WBS.

Bridgeport beat the Pens 3-2 last night.

Pens find themselves in 3rd place, since bylsma left they have been having problems.

Dan may never return..

Pens 4 Dallas 1

Due to a faulty drain in my bathtub I missed watching the first 2 periods. By the time I was able to relax alittle to watch the game it was 4-0 in the 3rd. It was another big win on the road proven they can still win without the Lip. Ugly has a nice game, Maf sounded like he had a strong game.

Feel free to add to this. I didn't get to see much.

The Don attacks another Russian...

Don cherry finally had the guts to go after Ovechkin... I myself usually don't like Don Cherry going after European players and for the most part I am sticking to it even though I don't like Lady Alex. I personally don't care about celebration, if he actually feels that energetic about scoring a goal then whatever, have fun, it is a game.... Though I do agree with what Cherry said in the second half of his little rant, but I think somebody will be going after him for his mouth or his excessive need to take cheap shots on various teams stars... Don Cherry is a racist, whatever he's still a slick dresser....

Some news from the Pesonation...

Thanks to fellow Janniac for giving us a heads up on some various Janne news and notes...

Dobber from THN thinks the trade shows the Pens have no faith in Janne

Empty Netters had the link to this article on Janne

Anyways, it seems that Janne really likes playing in the Penguins organization so a resigning isn't totally out of the question. It sounds like he is willing to put the time and effort into making the bigs, so who knows...

Guerin trade looming

Bill Guerin was pulled from the Islander line-up right before the Buffalo game last night.

Word from the Islander website that a trade had been in the works to send Guerin to an "Eastern Team" for an early round draft pick.

The trade will need Guerins consent.

Jump into the Playoffs today.

A win in Dallas today(3pm) shoots us atleast into 8th place, we could tie Florida for 7th(Fla has 1 game in hand)who plays the Crapitols in Washington. The Rangers could be within striking distance also with a win today.

The Stars have been struggling of late losing to the Ducks at home yesterday. The Stars have lost 4 in a row scoring 5 goals in those 4 games..
