Pens vs. Caps... A retrospect... (Also how it should sound version 3....)

The outcome of last nights game changed my outlook of things probably, but no matter win or lose most of the things I say here would probably hold true...

Looking back on a roller coaster season it is amazing that we are back in the ECF for the second year in row... I can remember the days when kevin and I were routinely calling for MT's head... Anyways, I was thinking about this today and looking back at our season it seems the caps have had quite the impact on our season. When I think about our mid-season slide, I think back to that game where we were up 4-1 on the caps, and they came back and beat us in regulation... After that game everything was downhill... Ovechkin and his caps sent us into a deadly spiral that had us several spots out of the playoffs and all of us sitting around thinking "maybe next year"... All was going down hill then all the sudden things started looking up... Whether it was finally beating the caps after 5 trys, or Disco Dan coming to save the day, it didn't matter, it seemed everything was up from there....

After that it seemed fitting that it would come down to playing the caps in the playoffs... Now it took 7 games to get the job done, but I think game 7 showed that we were a few bounces away from a sweet, and by far were the better team... We spout this more during the NFL playoffs, but the same holds true in the NHL, defense wins championships, and the Caps had none of it... Mike Green is pretty much all they had, and he had a bad series, maybe he was hurt, maybe he was just off, but he is a good player and I think any penguin fan would agree with me when i say that I hope the dumb ass capitals fans run him out of town like Larry Murphy and Gonchar (Whoop Whoop!) so we can scoop him up...

And on a final note, though their stats show up as the same Sidney Crosby has proven that he is the definitive player in the NHL today... Though Ovechkin put up points and goal, he did nothing in between... Unlike the two Heart candidates in this series, The Lip put the game on his stick and did everything.... He passed the puck, he scored goals, he backchecked, he forechecked, he went into corners, and most importantly he won the series.... Both Carolina and Boston will be tough opponents, but the Pens can take them on, and hopefully after a few games we will be sitting here waiting for our second year in the SCF... It's been a magical ride this year, and I'm glad we can continue this for atleast another series...
