State of the Pesonation

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

It it hard to believe that we are here today. It is hard to believe the situation were are in. It is hard to accept the fate we have been presented. After a record setting day of Jannimania, where one Finnish reader was able to create a bridge between our two nations (pittsburgh and finland), based on the idea that Janne is Awesome. But we are here, we are in this situation, and this is our fate.

Earlier in the day, I was filled with anger, confusion, and uncertainty to what the future will bring for the Pesonation, but as the hours pass I am able to gain a clearer idea of what have in store for us. The fact of the matter is, Janne is not the type of player that Mikey T is attracted to, he likes obscure tough guys who arn't that good (i.e. BGL and BizShitty). Does this mean Janne does not have a chance? That Janne will spend the rest of the year in the AHL and then return to Finland or to another franchise that recognizes tallent? Although these are possible outcomes, I do not see this in our future. Do not get me wrong, it will be an uphill battle, it will not be easy. Janne will be in for the fight of his life.

As fans we are placed in an interesting situation. We cannot call Janne up to the pens, we cannot make him perform at a caliber that we know he can play it, and we cannot make Mikey T and Ray Ray see in Janne what we see in him. All we can do, is sit here on the internet, post pictures of him, present facts that many people do not know, and have a good time. All we can do is wait an remember what we are here for.

The Pesonation was wounded today by a horrible blow. From here, we have two paths we can take. One route, we can slowly let the wound get worse and worse, moving onto other obscure players in the Penguins organization and slowly forget about that little part of our heart dedicated to Janne and let it slowly move towards cardiac arrest. The other route, we can move into the shadows of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, slowly let our wounds heal, and grow stronger, larger and more powerful than ever.

I know which route myself, kevin and this blog will go. The route the rest of the Pesonation choses is up to all of you. In 2005-2006 Janne had but 22 points, 8 goals and 14 assists. He did not willow and die, the next year he had 55 and the next he took the world by storm and had 78 points in only 53 games. Now he is competing to be a part of something every hockey fan dreams of, playing in the NHL. Janne didn't give up, Janne won't give up, and as a nation we should not give up.

From the shadows of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton we will be bringing you the most up to date news on Janne, and from the grandstands of Pittsburgh we will be brining you the best news on the Pens.

We are not dead, we are wounded. We were not cut, we were demoted. And it is not over, it has just begun.

In closing, stay tuned Pesonation, because we are not done here.

And they say Obama is good at giving speeches...

EDIT:

Couldn't have said it better myself. I honestly believe the situation was played out for this reason, Janne is not your typical 3rd or 4th line player grind it out NHLer, his skills are much to high and physical make-up is slight. He is a top 6 forward no worse. He needs big time mintues to continue to progress and he will. Good Luck to WB Pens, and most of Good Luck to Janne, work hard buddy you will be back. You people in the Wilkes-Barre Scanton area go out and see what we've have be raving about while you have the chance.

V-man, your rocking with photoshop I see. Nice work.

I'm sticking with you guys and Janne. I seriously feel that my beloved team's management and coach made a grave mistake when they demoted Pesonen. I admire Janne for leaving his exalted status in Finland to see if he could make it in the NHL. I wish there was some way that we could let him know that we're behind him. Thanks for being his voice!

This is not the end. This is the beginning. Janne is a great warrior and I seriously believe that he comes back to Pens quite soon. Of course it is true that Pens have many world-class players and everybody fights his place hard on the team. However referring the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s editor Dave Molinari on our local newspaper today: “Pesonen has been very good and I believe that it is possible to see him later playing left wing together with Sidney Crosby. Fedotenko and Dupuis have not been impressive enough”, he continues… Go Janne, Go Pens!

Hi guys, i'm a new follower of the blog, since 2 weeks before the preseason camp open i'd say.

I just wanted to give my opinion on the demotion of Janne... I smell a trade. With 2 of our top defensemen out for a good period of time, maybe Ray and MikeyT wants to prepare something good... make some young players play, expect them to show what they can do and that a team would be interested into acquriring them.

Let's see... 1 or 2 4th line (Bissonnete or Thomas) or just one of them and a draft pick for a old veteran defensive defenseman... would help untill Sarge and Ryan comes back.

By making Janne play in WilkesBarre, he goes under the radar of the other team... because let's face it, he's not really well known by the other teams in the nhl.

So assuming there will be a trade, Janne will get quality ice time in WBS before coming up in the big team and showing everyobdy what he can do!

Thats only my opinion, we will have to wait and see.

Malk,

Janne can feel our presence, we will be the driving force that will lead him down rt.80 to rt.79 to the place known as the IGLOO.

We thank you for all the support and Janne thanks you too..

Aamzing Post. As Janiacs and Pens fans we all needed to read that.

I feel a clip of the President's speech from ID4 would also work well here. Big things going down in Pens Nation. Undefeated season starts tonight...

When I heard Janne was cut, it was a very sad day. It struck harder than when the house originally rejected the bailout and the stock market plunged over 700 points. It was pain not seen since last June, watching the Penguins get eliminated in an obscure London bar at 3 am local time. However, your speech was reminiscent of some of the greatest of all time. It was like Winston Churchill declaring that he would fight to the very end. It was like Reagen demanding that the wall be torn down. I am re inspired. Like you said, it is the beginning not the end.
